Laura
Hi I’m Laura, the founder of Nations Together, a charity born in 2017 from a place that still feels like home — Tanzania. In my 30s I volunteered in an orphanage in a small town called Bomang’ombe, and like so many who spend time in Africa, I discovered the truth in the saying: “Once you’ve been to Africa, she always calls you back.” That call never left me, and it continues to guide the work we do today.
Back in the UK, I live in Lincolnshire, surrounded by a wonderfully lively family. I have three grown-up children, seven beautiful (and brilliantly boisterous) grandchildren, and I’m a single foster carer to three amazing teenagers — along with a few more who have now flown the nest or headed off to university. My home is rarely quiet, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I’ve always been someone who loves to be active and involved, whether it’s organising fundraising events, planning holidays, bringing people together, or supporting my local fostering community, I find joy in creating moments that matter. I’m also a proud member of the Humberside International Women’s Club, where connection and collaboration are at the heart of everything we do.
When I’m not working with the charity or surrounded by family, you’ll usually find me swimming, walking, paddleboarding, or taking time to reset through meditation.
Nations Together is an extension of everything I care about — community, compassion, and the belief that when people come together, extraordinary things can happen.
